We Asked And Here's What Brooke Had To Say~~

1. When did you write your first book?

I wrote my first book, "Someone Always Loved You," back in 2003 or 2004. It's a family drama and I got so discouraged from the "no's" I got from agents and publishers that I gave up on writing for a full decade. Eventually, my husband put the book up as an ebook as a surprise for me and I created paperbacks later on as well. The book somehow spread and has gone to #1 in its category twice. It's still very dear to my heart and it's a good example as to why authors should never give up. I lost a decade that I could have been using to write!

2. What kind of books do you enjoy writing?

I've written a variety, but lately, I've been focusing on romantic comedy. I have two young girls and when I get a chance to write, I want an escape from every day life. Something light-hearted and even a little funny. I get kind of goofy from lack of sleep and I think that shows up when I write these stories. The poor characters and the things I put them through! I can't say I'll never write another style, but for now, romantic comedy really works for me.

3. What kind of advice could you give new authors?

Don't let negative comments or "no's" discourage you. Not everyone will love what you do and that's okay! You don't like every movie you see or every book you read, right? You have to find the audience that WILL love it. That can be tough, but if you stop looking, you'll NEVER find it/them. If you love to write, write. Do it for you first and the rest will fall into place.

4. What was the hardest thing about writing your first book?

Having to stop and go to my real day job! At the time, I was in radio and I had a full time career as the Production Director as well as on air announcer. I was so wrapped up in the plot I didn't want to stop and do actual work. I wrote the book in about a month. The characters took over and wouldn't let go!

5. What are you working on next?

I completed a sequel to my Feb release "Accept this Dandelion." The sequel is called "Dandelions on the Road." I'm not completely sure what I will do with it yet, but I may release it myself, possibly as early as November. I also completed a third book in the series called "After the Final Dandelion." That novel is in rough draft form and it'll be awhile before I revisit it. I have an idea for a fourth book in the series, if I take it that far! I have a stand alone light-hearted romance coming out early September and that one's called "Mamarazzi." So a few projects on my plate right now!
